Privacy Policy
Talkscope ("we", "us", "our") operates the Talkscope mobile application and this website (talkscope.app). We help professionals practice job interviews by recording their spoken answers and returning structured feedback. Because the core of the product is your voice, we treat audio data with particular care, and this policy explains exactly what is collected, why, and what you can do about it.
1. Summary of how we handle your voice
- Interview practice audio is captured on your device and used only to generate your transcript and feedback for the session.
- To produce transcripts and feedback, audio for a session is sent server-side to third-party AI providers for transcription and analysis (see Section 5).
- Transcripts are evaluated and then discarded — we keep your progress metrics, not what you said.
- You can delete individual sessions, and request deletion of your account and data, at any time via support@talkscope.app.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in through App Store or Google Play, the limited identity information those platforms provide (such as a platform user identifier and display name).
2.2 Voice recordings
Practice sessions record audio of your speech. Recording is captured on your device and processed solely to produce the transcript and feedback for that session. Once the session's transcript and feedback are ready, the audio is deleted from the device and from our servers. Talkscope does not keep cloud copies of your recordings.
2.3 Transcripts and feedback
To evaluate each practice session we generate a text transcript and structured feedback. The transcript is processed to assess your delivery and to update your progress profile and lesson adjustments, and it is then discarded. What Talkscope retains are the derived metrics (pace, filler-word counts, pauses, scores) and your session history over time — not the words you spoke.
2.4 Usage analytics and diagnostics
We collect limited usage analytics — app version, device type and operating system, country or region derived from IP address, feature usage events, and crash diagnostics — to keep the app stable and understand which features are useful. We do not sell this data.
2.5 Communications
If you contact support or join a launch/waitlist email list, we keep your email address and the content of those communications.
3. How we use information
- Providing the core service: transcribing practice audio and generating delivery and answer-structure feedback.
- Maintaining your session history and progress views.
- Operating your account, authenticating sign-in, and providing support.
- Improving product quality: debugging crashes, measuring feature adoption, and (on aggregate, de-identified terms) evaluating transcription accuracy.
- Sending service announcements or launch emails you explicitly opted into.
We do not use your audio recordings or transcripts to train third-party foundation models except as strictly required to process your requests under provider terms that prohibit retention for training (see Section 5), and we do not use them for advertising.
4. Legal bases (where applicable)
Where the GDPR or similar regimes apply, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (providing the service), your consent (recording audio, marketing email, sensitive analytics where required), our legitimate interests (security, crash diagnostics, service improvement), and legal compliance.
5. Third-party AI processing providers
Transcription, audio analysis, and text-to-speech features are processed server-side using third-party AI providers, currently Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (Bailian), including the qwen-audio family of speech understanding and generation models. For each session you start, the relevant audio and/or its derived transcript is transmitted to these providers over encrypted connections solely to return results to you. Alibaba Cloud's Model Studio data-protection terms state that customer data is not used to develop or improve models without explicit consent, and we do not enable provider-side conversation memory or history features — all session state lives in our own backend. Model Studio does, however, store API request content (inputs and outputs) in the selected service region by default for its own auditing. We work to limit that storage to the minimum the platform allows. TBD — select the provider processing region and confirm with Alibaba Cloud what audit-log limitation options apply to our account configuration before launch. If we add or change providers, this section will be updated.
6. Other recipients of data
- Hosting and infrastructure vendors that store our backend data and media (processors under written agreements).
- App distribution platforms (Apple App Store, Google Play) as applicable to purchases, sign-in, and telemetry they provide to us.
- Analytics and crash reporting services as described in Section 2.4.
- Law enforcement or authorities, only when required by law and after review by counsel.
We do not sell personal information, and we are not aware of selling personal information of consumers in the past 12 months.
7. Retention
- Audio recordings: transient by design. Audio is retained only long enough to complete transcription and feedback for the session, then deleted from your device and from our servers. We do not keep cloud copies of recordings.
- Audio forwarded to AI providers: sent only to perform transcription; the provider's terms state content is not used for model training, but the provider keeps default audit logs of request content — see Section 5 for how we minimize this.
- Transcripts: transient. Used to evaluate the session and update your progress profile, then discarded. No copy of the words you spoke is kept on our servers.
- Derived progress metrics (pace, filler counts, scores, session history): retained while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Account and billing data: retained as required for tax, accounting, and legal obligations.
- Analytics and crash data: TBD — see current policy version. Proposed: aggregated or deleted on a rolling 12–24 month window.
- Support emails: TBD — see current policy version.
When you delete your account, personal data is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for legal purposes.
8. Your rights and choices
- Access and portability: request a copy of your data.
- Deletion: delete sessions in-app, or request deletion of your account and associated data, including recordings and transcripts, by emailing support@talkscope.app.
- Correction: update account details in-app or via support.
- Objection / consent withdrawal: stop recording sessions, opt out of analytics or marketing email at any time without affecting prior processing.
- Complaints: you may contact your local data protection authority.
We will respond to verified requests within the timeframes required by applicable law (for GDPR/CCPA: generally 30–45 days). Email us at support@talkscope.app; we may need to confirm your identity before fulfilling a request.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (TLS) for all network traffic, enforce access controls on our infrastructure, and minimize what leaves your device. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and regulators as required by law.
10. Children
Talkscope is intended for adults and general professional audiences. It is not directed at children under 16 (or under the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact support@talkscope.app and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including by the AI and infrastructure providers named above. Where required, we rely on appropriate transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses or provider certifications. TBD — finalize provider regions and transfer mechanisms before launch.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app and/or by email at least TBD — notice period, proposed 14 days before they take effect. The version and effective date at the top of this page show what is currently in force.
